As Afzal Kahn rekindles his affair with a bold new Aston Martin: Kahn takes this very welcome opportunity to review the Kahn Rapide!

It takes a lot of guts as well as a lot of money to embrace this Anglo-Italian supercar. If you are indeed rich enough, then you are rich enough.

An asking price of around £150,000 is not an issue for such an extrovert Kahn Aston Martin Rapide. More than a mere car, it’s a precious and rare commodity; if you have to be plucky enough to buy it, surely you’d have to be mad enough to drive the socks of it?

Not at all. Dubbed the most elegant four-door sports car in the world, the Kahn Aston Martin Rapide is incredibly civilised, but tremendously capable.

The way things are going in the world of automotive styling, you will find that this is a raw and rare driving experience. So the question is why not invest in such a vehicle? You’ll still get your money back because depreciation is not even an issue here!

It does look breathtakingly different; the fundamental proportions are breathtakingly elegant. The radically aggressive front bumper grille mesh in matte black, bonnet vents in billet, black brake calipers, side vent grilles in matte black, Kahn sports exhaust and Kahn 21” RSX-F wheels in platinum silver finish can only be appreciated by a true aficionado who has the guts to use it because he or she comprehends that superb vehicle dynamics, and an infectious yet near unparalleled visual drama does not belong in one’s garage, but on the open road.

For a car that's more than five metres long it feels nimble and compact when you're driving. The aperture is big enough for a big boy to venture through. The Rapide actually offers a great deal of leg room and while the dashboard looks familiar, the rest of the cabin has been thoroughly transformed thanks to an exquisite alcantara sport steering wheel and instrument binnacle and the Rapide’s familiar mix of soft English leathers and bare-metal switches complements the interior.

However, we always provide our customers with what they want. Afzal Kahn could, for example, design for you a vehicle with an exterior the colour of your jeans and an interior with seats akin to the shade of, let’s say, a grey t-shirt. Customers could also change the colour of the clock, in fact, we can transform the interior of any vehicle into an executive stateroom.

The way in which it gathers momentum so smoothly from 3000-4000rpm in the higher gears is testimony to the strong, even flow of torque that’s available; rarely does it seem necessary to venture much beyond this point in the rev range.

But when you do, another side of the Rapide’s personality is revealed. Between 5000rpm and the red line it becomes an altogether more aggressive, more responsive machine, emitting a fairly magnificent V12 sound from its previously subdued engine bay.

This is not a car you can hide in by any stretch of the imagination! People can hear the car coming before they even see it! Men, women and Children (of all ages) reach for their camera phones, the young hip crowd give it the thumbs up. Everyone knows it’s a special car.

Cars like this are about excitement per mile. And in this respect, the Kahn Aston Martin sets the benchmark because this car not only smells and looks British – Afzal Kahn has transformed this vehicle into a British style icon!
