Reviewed: Kahn RS250 Evoque

Attractive and nonchalant - there is nothing like the distinctive RS250 Vesuvius Edition Evoque.


This Orkney grey version contrasting against the black roof complete with Kahn lettering on the bonnet’s leading edge exerts a pull on the most discerning of individuals.


This popularity of the Evoque is why A.Kahn Design held off releasing a copper version of this vehicle until July 2012.


So allow Kahn News to take centre stage with welcome an opportunity to review this style icon: the end result of 'thousands of hours' of design time.


It's a individual creation, no doubt about it, not just because of its stunning Orkney grey colour and acclaimed wheels. It's the work that's been done to the front, rear and interior that is most striking.


A bold graphic widens the Evoque, a carbon fibre chin spoiler makes it look lower, grille vents at the rear ensure you know you're dealing with something rather special.


What is most striking however, is that a unique centre-exit exhaust has been designed (no small job with the extent of the engineering work on show for all to see), a bespoke bumper plus a RS-style rear spoiler.


What’s the RS250 Evoque like to drive?


What surprised many people was the effect the wheels would have on the vehicle. How does an Evoque on 22-inch RS 600 wheels cope on the road, then?


Answer: perfectly! Grip and body control are actually better than they are in the standard car, meaning Kahn RS250 owners will gain a great deal of motoring supremacy.


What's all the more impressive is that this has been achieved with the fitment of a lowered sports suspension kit. Taking 30mm from the ride height, the new setup cuts body roll and adds a dash of extra lithe agility to the class-leading Evoque.


Overall it is a very impressive vehicle to drive. Kahn has been careful not to lose the cohesive talents of the standard car, ensuring cool looks do not go hand in hand with an extreme drive.


Bespoke


A. Kahn Design’s ability to create bespoke interiors has been acknowledged worldwide.


And the curious will be treated to a feast for their very eyes in the form of a very special RS250 interior. The arrangement of this eye-catching yet complex interior certainly does not present one with any practical drawbacks.


The RS250’s sculpted seats accentuate the natural look and smoothness of the Alcantara & Vesuvius orange detail. In addition, a diamond gear selector, diamond quilted glove box with contrast stitching and four door armrests (diamond quilted) highlight the British craftsmanship found in the interior of the RS250.


Additional interior harmonisation applied by hand by means of experienced specialists - includes centre dashboard trim in Alcantara with contrast stitching, dashboard stitching, vented foot pedals in aluminium, quilted and perforated dashboard, transmission tunnel in Alcantara with contrast stitching and floor mats – high quality heavy duty carpet.

The ability to put together a limitless palette of colours into the fabric, leather, trim pieces, and more, is something that makes your automobile special and uniquely yours.


The company philosophy is to always give the customer what they want, so Afzal Kahn could for example, design you a vehicle with a full colour change (to a colour of your choice) and an interior akin to, let’s say your favourite leather reclining chair in your living room. Customers could also change the colour of the clock, or indeed, ask for anything else.


Verdict


So there you have it, changes to this vehicle are minimal to say the least, and this is certainly not an oversight on the part of Afzal Kahn and his team.


In most cases refinement by means of a minimalist approach results in a happy medium between customisation, luxury and design.


An attention seeking device first and a thoroughbred driving machine second – the RS250’S couture is, to put it rather simply: luscious from every single angle.
